Quick history lesson here….The start of Mardi Gras (Carnival) is officially Jan. 6th. The end of Mardi Gras is Fat Tuesday which always falls the day before Ash Wednesday. Fat Tuesday got its name because people were encouraged to gorge themselves before Ash Wednesday which is the start of Lent. Ash Wednesday is 40 days before Easter, not counting the Sundays between Ash Wednesday and Easter.
