Dear Fans,

       As I’m sure most of you know, we announced our team name earlier this week – we are now the Blue Wahoos! Our staff and ownership thoroughly enjoyed the Name the Team contest and are thrilled our fans had such a big part in the naming of our team. From the 1,700 people who submitted a name to the thousands of people who voted on the final six names, our community took ownership of their new team and helped to come up with the perfect name. 

The characteristics and color of the Wahoo wonderfully represents our fun, strong and dynamic community. For those of you who don’t know much about the Wahoo fish, they are known for the explosive way they pull out of the water. Their speed and high-quality flesh make Wahoos a prize game fish. Wahoos are a tough hometown fish that mean business. Blue, while part of the fish’s color, also connects to Pensacola’s blue water, blue skies and the Blue Angels.

 Now that we have a name, we will begin working with Plan B to create a logo and team colors. Plan B is a marketing and branding firm that has created looks for many premier Major and Minor League Baseball clubs, including top popular logos for the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

 Again we extend a huge “Thank You!” to all the fans that took part in the contest. We are all proud to be the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and are excited to see our brand take shape in the coming months!
